Current Workshops
Gina Holloway Mulder, Johannesburg
This creative and therapeutic workshop leads participants through two processes; the meditative and self-reflective process of making a mask which represents a specific part of the Self and, the process of finding, evolving and exploring the voice and movement aspects of this part of the Self. This work links directly to the Voice Movement Therapy Subpersonality work and Carl Jung’s concepts of archetypes and active imagination.
Exploring the Self through mask and song is a creative, visual, tactile and physical process engaging the faculties of both the left and right sides of the brain. The masks, as vessels of meaning, can be realistic, exaggerated, tribal, fantasy or other in styling. In their uniqueness they become a symbol of the Self, a three dimensional self-portrait, and a versatile instrument through which to explore the hidden dimensions of the Self.
The workshop also incorporates poetry, journaling and drawing as research and self exploratory methods. No previous experience in any of the modalities is required. There is some pre-workshop self-exploration required.

She went on to attain an Honours Degree and a Postgraduate Diploma in Dramatic Art majoring in choreography and physical theatre at WITS University in Johannesburg. Gina moved into a career as a professional choreographer and teacher teaching creative movement, choreographic techniques, character development, story writing, film studies, drama and improvisation to various groups including children, teens, youth, adults, the elderly, the physically disabled, in the mental health sector and with children in the special needs environment. In 1999 Gina entered the corporate training industry developing and facilitating courses in effective communication while also working in the television and film industries in various capacities. In 2004 Gina attended WITS Business School in order to obtain a better understanding of the corporate environment and how the arts could be implemented to essentially positively affect the bottom line.
Gina is one of only two Voice Movement Therapy practitioners in South Africa. She trained at the Norma G. Canner Foundation for Voice Movement Therapy in the United States qualifying as a professional practitioner in 2008 and is registered with the International Association for Voice Movement Therapy. She is based in Johannesburg and works and offers individual and group Voice Movement Therapy sessions and corporate and private voice, movement, breathing and creativity training through her company Voice 360 Training.
Gina currently also lectures voice at WITS University Drama Department. As an artist, Gina works in the mediums of choreography, performance art and digital video, through which she often explores the relationship between voice, movement and the psyche and the power of emotional and personal storytelling.
Gina also runs the below workshops on a regular basis:
Your Body is a Temple
An opportunity for you to reconnect with your body. This is a 1-day guided experience aimed at helping you to unblock, resonate with, energise, celebrate, make peace with, heal, pay attention to, redefine, appreciate and nurture your body and indeed yourself.
Connect and Nurture
Hearing is the first sense to be stimulated in an unborn baby’s development; the connect and nurture workshop’s aim is to teach you to harness the creative power of your own voice to bond with your unborn child.
Creative Self Development Workshop for Children
This 4-day workshop develops verbal and non verbal communication skills through the introduction and exploration of alternative, creative and kinaesthetically-based ways of expressing the Self. The sessions develop children through activities such as creating songs and singing, creative movement, drawing, characterization, improvisation and presenting/sharing created work, thus making it a positive, uplifting and empowering process which fosters pride and solidifies the child’s sense of identity and self worth.
The Cycle of Life Workshop
This 1-day workshop harnesses the ideas and images of cycles, of endings and beginnings, of things past and of things to come, and satisfies our need to refresh and renew our Self. It provides participants with the opportunity to therapeutically explore these themes through a guided journey of creative voice and movement exploration.
